Pharmacists are commonly approached for advice on cough and cold. This educational initiative was developed by OPA’s Drug Information and Research Centre in collaboration with content experts to provide an evidence-based approach to the management of cough and cold. During this one hour session, the epidemiology and pathophysiology of the common cold, differential diagnosis, and both non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment options will be reviewed. There is emphasis on managing special populations, including women who are pregnant or lactating, pediatrics, and those with renal impairment or liver disease. The program will also introduce participants to tools and resources to assist in patient assessment, product recommendation, monitoring and follow-up for cough and cold management. This course is presented by Louise Tétreault, BScPhm RPh CRE, who has been working as a community pharmacist for over twenty years.
The Ontario Pharmacists’ Association would like to acknowledge and thank Elena Mow, BSc(Pharm) RPh ACPR, Michael Rieder, MD PhD FRCPC FAAP FRCP(glas), and Zubin Austin, BScPhm, MBA, MISc, PhD, for their contribution to the development and review of this program.
This program was made possible through an unrestricted educational grant from Procter & Gamble Inc.
